For several decades, Spain is one of the references for the tennis world. It is one of the tennis world leaders (the country with one of the highest number of players in the ATP Ranking top100). Although we do not have a working methodology or one system, as exist in other countries, we have a working environment and philosophy that makes a great breeding ground for the development of the players. The ideal framework created here, among other things, are the fantastic competition calendar in Spain and the possibility to train and compete on clay.
Why Mallorca?
Mallorca has, in addition to the above, some specific conditions. Conditions that have helped to obtain an impressive number of professional sportsmen (sportswomen) in relative to the number of inhabitants that it has. The highest level of achievement, from the tennis point of view, was when Rafa Nadal and Carlos Moyà won the Davis Cup.
The combination of the conditions that exist in Mallorca are difficult to find in other parts of the world:
- One factor is its climate. It has a moderate Mediterranean climate with an average annual temperature of 16 °C, an average annual rainfall of 427 mm and 2.756 hours of sunshine a year. That allows us to work through the tennis seasons intensely, losing very few days of trainings and tournaments.
- There are many clay courts for trainings and the development of the players.
- The Mediterranean diet forms a part of its lifestyle. It is known that scientists have revealed that this lifestyle is beneficial for the health and the welfare of the people. It is our cultural heritage.
- And above all, the culture of its people, which provides a calmness for working. A way of thinking where humility is rewarded and pride and arrogance are punished. This creates an excellent atmosphere for the education of our tennis players.
- Situated in the center of the Mediterranean, it enables us to be superbly connected with the rest of Europe. Thus the level of the tournaments here are high. Also our players can travel easily to the rest of the world.
The successes we have had on this island with sports are of no coincidence and are not exclusively of tennis. We also stand out in other sports like soccer, basketball, motorbike GP, mountainbike, swimming, etc.
